Here's the funny thing about CBC host Jian Ghomeshi's on-air clash with Hollywood actor Billy Bob Thornton, which has drawn big traffic on YouTube. It wasn't a clash at all.
Thornton behaved like an ass. At length. But Ghomeshi plowed ahead with the interview regardless, in tones exceedingly respectful and polite. He thanked the bad-boy star when it was all over. He then invited his band to play a tune.
Ghomeshi should have shown them the door -- on air. He should have publicly booted their pretentious hillbilly backsides back to the Ozarks. Why didn't he? Why are Canadians so painstakingly polite even when we're treated terribly? And why are people generally so nauseatingly deferential towards Hollywood celebrities?

Jennifer Aniston was so desperate to be in a relationship when her new movie goes head-to-head with ex-husband Brad Pitt's latest that her aides interviewed potential partners for her, it was claimed today.
Both Aniston and Pitt release their films on Christmas Day in the United States.
Aniston stars in canine comedy, Marley & Me while Pitt takes the lead role in fantasy drama, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
But sources say Aniston could not face being single when the films came out, while Pitt shows off partner, Angelina Jolie.
